ARTIST: GEOFF GOUVEIA
Geoff Gouveia, a Southern California based painter and writer, loves the connection felt between two kindred spirits- be it over a mutual appreciation for espresso or amongst aficionados of fútbol. His work exists at the intersection of Vincent Van Gogh's unique color combinations and Shel Silverstein's cheeky approach. Gouveia retains a bit of playfulness as he touches on serious issues deep within the human soul. You can find his work around the world, including on the walls of the new Facebook offices in Los Angeles, CA.
MOST KNOWN FOR: Cheeky large scale murals and illustrations.
I don’t like to make it myself at home. I usually go out to get a black drip with honey. That’s my jam. A bomb pour-over at Shreebs is the ultimate!
NAME SOMETHING YOU LOVE.
My wife, Kels. She supports me in everything I do. I love walks with her and our two pups, Ozzie and Bear. We talk about things other than art, so it’s a nice refresh for me.

WHAT IS KEY TO YOUR PROCESS?
My daily marker is a full-page spread in my sketchbook and writing 300 words per day. 90% of what I idealize in my sketches and writing doesn’t see the light of day, but it’s the constant connection that links me to the next thing I do.

WHAT IS YOUR DREAM PROJECT?
I would love to work with Vans shoes – it would feel like the “home town hero” job for me. I grew up wearing Vans, grew up skating, and a lot of my creative energy comes from that world. Skaters see things differently and I approach all my façades like a skater would. Producing something for them would feel like I was feeding that next generation, the next kids to come up.
Another dream is to paint a mural on all seven continents.
WHERE WOULD YOU LIKE TO LIVE?
Chile. That’s my favorite country. I would love to live in Santiago, Chile. I do love living in Riverside, where I am now, but I've been stoked on the idea of Chile.
ON YOUR DEATHBED, LAST MEAL IN LA?
My wife makes these really bomb fish tacos. I would definitely want those.
