ARTIST: JONATHAN ENTLER

Entler is part of a community of LA-based designers and makers with whom he collaborates and creates. He has lived in Los Angeles for 20 years and his strongest childhood memories are of the vineyards of Guasti where his grandparents lived. He has been playing with ceramics since he was a kid, started making design objects in the 90s and launched his ceramic lamps business in the early 2000s.

MOST KNOWN FOR: Fine art ceramic lighting and furniture

HOW DO YOU TAKE YOUR COFFEE? BREW METHOD?
I usually have a shot of espresso.

NAME SOMETHING YOU LOVE.
It’s hard to choose a thing that I love. There are a lot of things in this room I love. Tools that I’ve had for a long time.

But really, this moment— everything that is happening right now and everyone that is involved. I feel very grateful to be here right now.

WHAT IS KEY TO YOUR PROCESS?
Intuition. Trial and error. Failure.

WHAT IS YOUR DREAM PROJECT?
I’d like to make larger scale projects - a bridge, or something massive made with ceramics.

WHERE WOULD YOU LIKE TO LIVE?
I love it here in East LA. I’ve been in my house in Elysian Heights for 15 years and don’t plan on leaving any time soon.

ON YOUR DEATH BED, LAST MEAL IN LA?
I would ask the people at Cookbook to make me dinner.

WHERE CAN WE FIND YOUR WORK?

At Lawson Fenning in Silverlake and Melrose, and Beam in Williamsburg. Now in Tokyo at the CPCM store.
