ARTIST: ABEL MACIAS
CURRENT PROJECT or SHOW:
I have a solo show coming up in May at SCAD in Savannah, and in February, a visiting artist lecture there as well. I'm really excited about both of those - the solo show especially.
S. How do you take your coffee? Brew Method?
A.M. Black. Sometimes sugar, but mostly black. Pour over.
S. Name something you love, and why.
A.M. Sunsets. Tacos. Mountains. They are all these things I feel like I needed in my life when I moved out here, and then it was like, finally I have all these things. Also, there are tacos everywhere...
S. What is key to your process?
A.M. To be playful. 'Play' is one of the words I think of whenever I’m in the middle of a process or feel stuck. It's all about just having fun. I try to enjoy the process of making something and be playful with the different use of materials – I like to think of it like playing
S. Where would you like to live?
A.M. I’m happy here [in Echo Park] for the time being.
S. What is your dream project?
A.M. I've always thought that animation would be a cool medium, not necessarily a cartoon, but it would be cool to see my work animated. I would also love to do textiles or fabrics, wallpaper or something like that. I love homes, I think that where we live are important spaces”
S. On your deathbed, last meal in LA?
A.M. Tacos! A taco truck by the Vons on Alvarado in Echo Park, next to an Auto Zone. I call it Taco Zone.
S. Where can we find your work?
A.M. On my website and Instagram. I share my art and things going on around the studio
